Richmondville - R. Douglas Peck, 91, of Pecks Lane, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at his daughter's home in Fawn Grove, PA.
Born April 24, 1919 in Richmondville, he was the son of Warner S. and Lulu (Davis) Peck.
Douglas was a lifelong area resident and was one of the oldest living members of the Richmondville Central School Class of 1937. He worked on the family dairy farm for many years and also had a milk route that encompassed Jefferson, Summit, and Richmondville. Douglas retired in 1984 from the Richmondville Central School as a bus driver.
On December 21, 1940 he married Eleanor Rivenburgh at St. Paul's Lutheran Parsonage in Richmondville. Together they owned and operated Hi-View Campsites in Richmondville for over thirty-five years.
Douglas was baptized in St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a life long member and was active in the Men's Group. He was also a past church council member.
He was a charter member of the Richmondville Lions Club and Richmondville Historical Society, a past member of the Schoharie County Farm Bureau and was currently a member of the Richmondville Fish & Game Club, Richmondville Senior Citizens, Richmondville Alumni Association, and current trustee of the Richmondville Rural Cemetery Association.
Douglas was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor, on Feb. 7, 2006, and an infant son, William Peck, and two brothers: Donald and Roger Peck.
Survivors include his four daughters: Susan and Gary Rightmyer of Richmondville, Roberta Elliott of Leesburg, VA, Lisa and Randy Crapser of Richmondville, and Kimberly and David Collins of Fawn Grove, PA; his grandchildren: Glenn Rightmyer and Gwen, Geoffrey Rightmyer and Jenn, Susan Volans, Jeannelle Shaver, Melissa Walchko and Joseph, Sarah Shaw and Matthew, Craig Elliott, Marlania Panzer and Nicholas, Philip Collins, Katherine Elliott, and Michael Collins; great-grandchildren: Taylor Rightmyer, Nolan and Ella Walchko, Gabrielle, Madeline and Colton Shaver, Anna and Andrew Rightmyer, Grace Baker, Colton Shaver and Cash Volans Wilson; his sister: Margaret D. Boughton and Donald of Richmondville; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Main St., Richmondville, with Rev. Elaine Berg and Rev. Gary Edmister co-officiating. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Monday, prior to the service. Burial will follow in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
