Cobleskill- Robert B. Mallia, 79, of Madison Ave., died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at his residence following a short illness.
Born January 8, 1931 in Schenectady, Robert was the son of James F. and Maymie G. (Messier) Mallia.
He was a graduate of Albany Business College and served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of both Cobleskill VFW Post 5088 and Sharon Springs American Legion Post 1269.
Bob retired from the New York State Department of Taxation and was also a self employed accountant.
He was actively involved in his community having served as Cobleskill Town Justice for several years, Cobleskill Village Parks Committee, a charter member and past president of the Schoharie County Sheriff's Tactile and Rescue Force, and the office of the Dare Advisory Committee. Bob was also a director for thirty-two years, former superintendent and former treasurer of the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
A communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Bob was an usher and audited the church books, as well as serving in many other volunteer capacities.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Johnson) Mallia, whom he married November 29, 1952; a daughter, Mary Ellen Mallia (Bennett Braun) of Princetown; three sons: Robert J. Mallia of South Dakota, Timothy P. Mallia of Howes Cave, and Mark J. (Jean) Mallia of Maui, HI; his sister, Mary Ellen Vlad of Fort Pierce, FL; and three grandchildren: James Mallia of Howes Cave, Casey Mallia of Warnerville, Mylea Braun of Princetown; two great-grandchildren: Tyler and Ryan Mallia of Howes Cave; and a brother-in-law: Patrick J. Johnson of Glenville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill with Father Thomas F. Holmes as celebrant. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church 6 PM to 8 PM on Friday. Burial will be at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery with full military honors.
