Robert James Hummel, 74, of Grandview Drive, died Sat Feb. 9, 2008 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Hummel was born on Sept. 19, 1933 in Catskill, NY, son of the late Charlie and Cecilia (Miller) Hummel. Growing up in Cairo, NY, during WWII, he was a spotter for enemy aircraft. Mr. Hummel graduated High School in 1952 and joined the Air National Guard. After serving 33 years in the military, he retired as a M/Sgt. He also worked for both the Cobleskill Police Dept. and at SUNY Cobleskill as a Public Safety Officer for 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the Cobleskill Fire Dept. and also a member of the Cobleskill Eagles Club. He was a member of the VFW Post # 5088 in Cobleskill and member and past Commander of American Legion Post # 57 in Cobleskill.
Mr. Hummel is survived by his wife, Claudia (Friss) Hummel, whom he married on Aug. 3, 1958 and

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 AM on Tues., Feb. 12, 2008 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Washington Ave., Cobleskill. Father Thomas Holmes will be celebrant. Spring interment will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Cobleskill, NY Calling hours will be from 6-8 pm on Mon. Feb. 11, 2008 at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm Street Cobleskill.
