Middleburgh: Robert E. Gilligan, Sr., 92, of Campbell Hill Road, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at his home, following a brief illness.
Bob was born on August 12, 1924 in Montrose, NY to Annetta (Ackerman) and Edward J. Gilligan.
He proudly served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
A retired teamster and manager at Starlight Lanes, Bob eventually owned his own bowling alley, Briarhill Lanes, in Briarcliff Manor, NY.
He was a long-time resident of Croton-on-Hudson prior to moving to Middleburgh. Locally, Bob was a member of the Huntersland United Methodist Church and the Middleburgh Golden Age Club.
He was an avid bowler and golfer, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.
Bob was predeceased on September 29, 2016 by his wife and high school sweetheart, Betty (Hochstatder) Gilligan, whom he married on October 15, 1944 and his son: Robert E. Gilligan, Jr.; 4 sisters; 6 brothers.
He is survived by his son: Roland (Mary Jo) Gilligan of Middleburgh; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held privately.
