Richard F. Weigel

Cobleskill- Richard F. Weigel, 92, formerly of Cobleskill, died Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation and Nursing in Oneonta.

Born January 2, 1930 in Port Jervis, NY, he was the son of Fred and Ellen (Vaughn) Weigel.  Richard was a United States Air Force veteran, proudly serving  his country during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until 1954 when he received an honorable discharge.

Dick was employed at Victory Markets in West Winfield, NY as a manager of the meat department, retiring after 40 years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and tending to his garden.  While living on Canadarago Lake, waterskiing and boating were activities he found pleasure with. Dick loved a good dark beer and always proclaimed, "here's to looking up your assets". He always had a good limerick and other sayings such as "off like a dirty shirt" and they "shoot horses".

Richard was predeceased by a step-granddaughter, Vanessa Ranta; two sisters: Winifred Vicchiariello and Oggie Burgus and a half brother, Fred Weigel.

Cherishing wonderful memories are his wife, Iola (King) Weigel, whom he married July 12, 1975;step-daughters: Laureen Rehberg of Worcester and Theresa Miller of Iverness, FL; step-granddaughter, Kelly Maynard of Worcester, NY, step-grandsons, Brian Jacobs of Worcester, NY and Charlie Miller of Iverness, FL; and great-granddaughter, Schuyler Maynard of Worcester, NY. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Joseph Arockiasamy officiating. A period of visitation will be held from 10AM until the commencement of the service at 11AM. Inurnment will follow in Zion Rural Cemetery, town of Serward.
