Richard Slater,
Great Barrington, MA - Richard S. Slater, Jr., 67, formerly of Howes Cave, died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home in Great Barrington, MA after a brief illness.
Richard was born January 13, 1946 in McKeesport, PA and was the son of Richard S. and Helen (Sakal) Slater, Sr.
Upon graduating from McKeesport High School, he enlisted in the US Navy on January 21, 1964 and proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged on February 18, 1972. Mr. Slater moved to Schoharie County in 1984 and for many years, he and his wife owned and operated a dairy farm in Howes Cave. He later drove truck for JB Hunt.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Edward Slater.
He is survived by his wife, Judith (Hills) Slater of Cobleskill, whom he married on January 17, 1975; 3 daughters, Kristine L. (Jeffrey) Skelton of Billerica, MA, Daphne (Richard) Bartlett of Milford, NY, Stephanie Slater of East Berne; 2 sisters, Kathleen Slater and Emmy Slater, both of McKeesport, PA; 3 step-children, Theresa Collard of Maine, Eugene Collard of Florida, and Jeremy Collard of Cobleskill; as well as 5 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be conducted with Full Military Honors at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 3:00 pm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River Street, Middleburgh, NY.
