Schoharie- It is with deep sadness that the family of Richard Willard Shaw announces his passing on April 6, 2015. Richard had lived a full and accomplished life for 83 years. Born March 13, 1932 to Meta Horton Shaw and Willard Shaw, Richard spent the first half of his life in Irvington, New York and is remembered for his skills in the building trade. His proudest work was the beautiful home in Schoharie, with a spectacular mountain view which he built for his sweetheart and himself.
He was also a talented mechanic who loved and could fix anything on wheels. He took great pride in the restoration of countless cars, more recently his own collection of classics.
Richard loved music and rarely missed a day of listening to his favorite tunes. He loved good food and a good time, and frequently livened up any gatherings with animated stories that rendered his audience to tears of laughter.
Richard was the devoted husband for 63 years to the love of his life, Marjorie (Stone), and the loving father of James Shaw, Pamela Shaw, Suellen Mosa, Robert Shaw and Jeanne Variano, grandfather to 16, great-grandfather to 7. Richard was the cherished brother of Phillip Shaw and the late Meta Proft. He was a vital part of a large extended family, and a circle of many friends.
If the success of a man's life can be judged by the impact he has made on others, Richard reached out to many, teaching them his trade, touching all with his generosity, sense of humor, tenacity and his positive example. He will live on through all of us who have been so fortunate to have known him, and especially through those who were close enough to have loved him and been loved by him.
Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, please plant something beautiful in your yard, perform an act of kindness or donate to a charity of your choice. Thank you.
