Middleburgh- Richard Roy Sewell, 87, of 396 Main Street, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at his residence following a long illness.

Born September 3, 1928 in Winchester, MA, he was the son of James R. and Thelma G. (Smith) Sewell. He was raised in Walworth, NY and graduated high school there.

Dick attended Union College in Schenectady and received his degree in engineering. He was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict and receiving an honorable discharge in 1960.

He came home to work and eventually own the business that his father, James, had established, Schenectady Concrete Products, Inc. on Van Vrankin Avenue. Dick married Audrey L. Browe, now deceased, and they raised two children, moving to Middleburgh in 1967.

He attended the Dutch Reformed Church in Middleburgh, was a longtime AA member and sponsor for many, enjoyed playing poker and hunting, and attending the summer band concerts on the high school lawn.

Survivors include his two children: Kathryn L. Sewell of Boston, MA, and John R. Sewell of Golden, CO; two grandchildren: Rachel L. Sewell of Aurora, CO, and Matthew H. Sewell of Golden, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Reformed Church, River St., Middleburgh with Rev. Jeffrey Kelley officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, October 2, at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. Burial with military honors will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.
