Schoharie- Richard J. Schaeffer, 56, of State Route 30, died unexpectedly Saturday, February 25, 2006 after being stricken at Whiteface Mountain.
Mr. Schaeffer was born November 2, 1949, the son of Roland and Ethel M. (Miller) Schaeffer.
He was a graduate of Middleburgh Central School and SUNY Plattsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education. He was a former employee of Schoharie County Department of Social Services where he worked for 14 years, and had worked for the past 10 years as a Staff Development Coordinator for Montgomery County Department of Social Services.
He was a member of the Schoharie Reformed Church. Mr. Schaeffer served as past president of the Schoharie Kiwanis Club. He was also a coach for Schoharie Little League when his son played.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa (Bloomer) Schaeffer, whom he married Oct. 1, 1988; 2 sons: Ben Schaeffer and Jesse Bloomer, both of Schoharie; an aunt, Lillian Rack of Schoharie; an uncle, John Miller of Cobleskill; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Leonard and Florence Bloomer of Fishkill; a brother-in-law: Paul Bloomer of Fishkill, and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the Schoharie Reformed Church Main St. Schoharie with the Reverends Michael and Sherri Meyer-Veen officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at Palmer & Shaylor, Inc. Funeral Home 134 River St. Middleburgh. Spring interment will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.
