Middleburgh: Richard Diamond, 86, of Mill Valley Road, died Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.

Dick was born at home, in West Middleburgh, on May 18, 1928 the son of Marion Diamond.
He graduated from Middleburgh Central School and later enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1950 to 1952.

Following his honorable discharge, he worked at the Army depot in Schenectady before going to work at the Department of Transportation in Cobleskill. He was a road crewman for many years and after retiring, went back to work in the office as a dispatcher. Dick also helped at the Prokop farm in West Middleburgh.

Dick was a member of VFW Post # 2161 in Middleburgh and served as Post Senior Vice Commander from 1970 to 1971.

He enjoyed nature, playing softball on the Lamp Post's team and spending time with his family and friends.

Dick especially liked the VFW breakfasts and stuffed pizza from the Summit Conservation Club.

He is survived by his niece: Valarie Slater of Middleburgh; great-nephew: Rodney (Sue) Slater and his children Haley Slater and Charles John Slater of Middleburgh; cousins: Clara Mickle, Doyle Diamond, Barbara Bender, Timothy (Connie) Schrom, Larry (Kathy) Smith, Casey Smith, Laura Vochdnek, Deveral (Billy Joe) Watson, Beth (Dave) Packard, Steve (Laurie) Mickle, Amy (Chris) Fain, Scott Mickle, Gabby Schrom; special friends: Ray (Tina) Miller and many other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St. Middleburgh, NY with Father R. L. Donahue officating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Middleburgh Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00am to 11:00am, prior to the funeral service.
