Cobleskill- Richard Allen Bates, 62, of Cobleskill, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at his son's home with his loving family at his side.

Born July 24, 1949 in Oneonta, he was a son of Amos G. and Edith (Ingraham) Bates.

Richard was a lifelong area resident and had been employed with Lancaster Development for several years.

Richard was an avid football fan and in his younger years played semi-pro. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his four children: Michele (Pat Frasier) Ondrek of Howes Cave; Richard (Kristen) Bates of Delanson, Mark (Tracy) Bates of Dorloo, and Travis (Jen Myers) Bates of Richmondville; his seven siblings: Joan M. Smith of E. Meredith, Gloria Chamberlain of Dorloo, Lucille Waid of Davenport, Amos G. Bates, Jr. of Oneonta, Donald R. Bates of Gardnerville, NV, Harvey L. Bates of Charleston Four Corners, and Samuel E. Bates of Duanesburg; ten grandchildren: Paige, Samantha, and Austin Ondrek, Eric and Alison Bates, Alicia and Marcus Bates, and Alexis, Lucas, and Damian Myers; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Ken McHurd of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Duanesburg officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 2 to 3 PM on Sunday. Private inurnment will be in Seward Valley Cemetery in the Spring.
