Richmondville- Rev. Victor R. Zaccaro, 84, of Richmondville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown after a brief illness.
Victor was born in Troy, NY on April 6, 1930 and was the son of Nicolino and Elizabeth (Rossi) Zaccaro.
He earned his Bachelor Degree in Business from Siena College in 1952 and his Masters of Divinity from Boston University School of Theology in 1955. Upon graduation he was appointed to the Richmondville/Warnerville United Methodist Churches. He remained there until his retirement in 1995. During his forty years in ministry he served The United Methodist Troy Conference, was one of the cornerstones of the Albany District of the the Troy Conference. He enlightened the youth of his community about living a life of caring and giving back to those who needed. During his mission work, he was very active with his dedication to the Henderson Settlement, a community located in the Eastern Kentucky Appalachian Mountains. He was one of the founding members of the Ecumenical Bible Study Group in Richmondville and Summit. During his lifetime of ministry, he so loved the people that he served and the many lives that he touched, both the young and old.
Victor's most treasured moments were spending time with family and friends. His time at "The Farm" and over 50 years of family summer vacations with 4 generations to York Beach, Maine and Cape Cod.
He was predeceased by his wife Lee and son-in-law Walter Sperry.
Victor is survived by his two daughters, Lynda Sperry of Binghamton, NY and Suzanne (Gary) Buhl of Richmondville; his cherished grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Sperry, Adam (Sarah) Sperry, Lt. Timothy (Andria) Sperry, Rev. Andrew (Eileen) Sperry, Stefanie (Lucas) Danielsen, Devin Buhl; his beloved great grandchildren, Zachary, Lola, Dorothy, Isabelle, Adalyn Sperry and Eleina Danielsen. He is also survived by his Aunt Inez Fox, several cousins and his 4 stepsons, Nicholas, Jon, Christopher, and Kenneth Nielsen and their families. In addition, his extended family, M. Joan Veley, Paula (Clay) Golding, Martha (Clay) Fritz, and Linda (Clay) Renzi who was a true blessing to our "Poppy", and we cannot forget about his beloved dog, Brutus.
The family wishes to extend a gracious Thank You to the nurses and doctors who provided such wonderful care of him during the time he was hospitalized.
A memorial service will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, March 21, 2015 at the Richmondville United Methodist Church, Main Street, Richmondville, NY. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the social hall for continued fellowship. By request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are strongly recommended to be made in Victor's memory to: Upper New York Conference Seminary Student Fund, 324 University Ave., 3rd Floor, Syracuse, NY 13210.
