Raymond Ackerly

West Fulton- Raymond Joseph Ackerly, 83, of Swart Hollow Road, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a resident for a brief time.

Born March 29, 1930 in Woodsfield, OH, he was the son of Raymond and Mae (Bishop) Ackerly. He was a graduate of Sayville High School and then enlisted in the United States Army. From 1948 until 1950 he served with the Army and the transferred to the Reserves until receiving his honorable discharge in 1955.

Raymond then joined his family in Schoharie County, assisting on the dairy farm until becoming employed at General Electric in Schenectady. Following his retirement, Raymond continued to be self employed with various jobs.

His hobbies include that of hunting and gardening, which he was well known for sharing his produce with neighbors.

Raymond is survived by his brother: Victor VanBallenberghe of Anchorage, AK; his sister: Starr Halligan of Connecticut; and several nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service or calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
