Ralph E. Powe, Esq., retired Civil Rights Attorney, whose cases include the espionage trail of Julius and Ethel Rosenburg, to the legendary Brown vs. The Board of Education, died in the early morning hours of December 22, 2007 in Cobleskill, NY.
Born to Ralph and Jessie Powe, July 7th, 1914 in Cheraw, SC.
Mr. Powe is survived by his loving wife, Effie Bennett-Powe, retired early childhood professor at SUNY Cobleskill, his son, Dr. Emile A. Powe (Dr. Jeannette Thornton), daughter, Deidre C. Powe, RPA, daughter, Nomi-Kaie Bennett; grandsons, Ralph E. Powe III (Annette), Michael J. Powe, Ethan C. Powe, Jason R. Stewart, and great-granddaughter, Lauren Powe; daughter-in-laws: Shirley Powe and Jacqueline Powe; brother-in-law, Al Greenwood, and niece Kimberly Johnson (Augustin). Predeceased by his first wife, Corinne L. Powe, sister, Jessie Greenwood, cousin Jazz Legend, Dizzy Gillespie, sons, Ralph E. Powe, Jr., and Ronald L. Powe, and grandson, Laurentz A. Powe. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and many many friends who will miss him dearly and forever love him.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM (noon) on Saturday, January 5, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm St. Cobleskill. There will be no calling hours.
