Blenheim- Mr. Philip J. Carter, 84, formerly of Benheim, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford, NY.
Born March 30, 1925, he was a son of Claude D. and Cora (Hall) Carter.
Mr. Carter was a United States Marine Veteran, serving from 1943 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He was a member of the VFW Post 3600 in Climax Springs, MO.
He retired from NYS Department of Environmental Conservation where he most recently was a Forest Preserve Specialist.
Following retirement, Mr. Carter was a self employed carpenter, specializing in custom built homes and cabinetry and was also an avid card player.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude, who died Oct., 9, 2003 and a son, Ronald Carter, who died June of 2000.
Survivors include his two daughters: Cristy (Todd) Trammell of Oxford, OH and Jan (Mike) Ryder of Blenheim; five grandchildren: Jesse (Kate) Trammell of Oxford, OH, Lucas (Rachel) Trammell and Daniel Trammell of Oxford, OH, Brionna Ryder of Niskayuna, Brett (Connie) Ryder of Blenheim; and five great-grandchildren: Krista Ryder of Niskayuna, Makayla, Logan, and Jackson Ryder of Blenheim, and Xy Trammell of Oxford, OH.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 PM, Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009 at Jan Carter-Ryder's home, 102 Tucker Lane (off of Bear Ladder Road) in Blenheim, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to a local VFW Post, or the National Parkinson's Assoc.
