Richmondville- Peter Irvin Slater, 70, of Main Street, died Thursday, November 2, 2017 at his residence in the care of his family.

Born September 14, 1947 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of Irvin and Mary (Cullen) Slater.

Peter retired from KSI Building Products in Cobleskill after several years as a laborer.  Prior to that, he had worked at the former Rua’s Tire Service, Fenimore Fabrics, and the National Stove Works.

In his younger years, Pete enjoyed hunting deer and fishing, along with being an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. NASCAR fan.  More recently, when his health allowed it, Pete found simple pleasure in sitting on his front porch enjoying life.

He had also been a member of the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department as well as driving the ambulance when need be.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria J. (Burgess) Slater, whom he married December 29, 1973;  his two daughters:  Amy Lynn (Melvin) Terrell of Richmondville and Michelle Marie Slater of Richmondville; grandson, Michael M. Terrell of Richmondville; his two sisters:  Virginia Decator and Barbara Filmer, both of Lenoir City, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A period of visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.  There will be no formal service.

Due to his love for his cats, Pete’s family requests memorial contributions to Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, Inc., PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.
