Middleburgh- Pauline Mae Mercer, 83, of East Hill Road, died peacefully at her home, Saturday, May 28, 2016, with her loving husband of 61 years by her side.

Born in Middleburgh on April 25, 1933, Pauline was the first-born twin to Minnie (Schanz) and Guy Reinhart.

Pauline was devoted to her family. She always stayed busy caring for them by growing a bountiful garden and canning and freezing fruits and vegetables.

Pauline enjoyed the outdoors too, whether she was raking hay on the farm, snowmobiling, camping or photographing many of nature's beautiful landscapes across the country.

Pauline was an accomplished writer, seeing her first book, "Wasted Years" published in 1996 and a second, "Raging Waters" published in 1999. She was a news correspondent for 19 years at the Middleburgh News, until it's closing and a correspondent with the Greenville Local for 6 years.

Many may remember her as a realtor too, with Mort Wimple Realty in Sloansville.

Pauline loved life, people and her community. She was a former member and officer of the Middleburgh Business and Professional Women's Club, a member, officer and certified NYS instructor of the Ridgerunners Snowmobile Club and a member of the Middleburgh Historical Society.

She served on the MCS Alumni Association, the Elementary School building plan committee, Comprehensive committee for the Town of Middleburgh and was a member of the Planning Board.

Pauline was predeceased by her twin brother, friend and neighboring farmer: Paul Reinhart; son: Alan Mercer; grandson: Joshua Brodie and granddaughter: Shawna Mercer.

Pauline is survived by her husband, Maurice S. "Sonny" Mercer, Jr., whom she married on October 23, 1954 and daughters: Audrey (Ron) Wood of Middleburgh, Diane Manchester (Gary Hotaling) of Sharon, Valerie (Tom) Warner of Middleburgh, Nancy (Dale)Terrell of Middleburgh; sons: Duane (Mary) Mercer of Middleburgh, Everett (Janice) Mercer of Middleburgh, Roy Mercer of Middleburgh; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; her friend and beloved sister-in-law: Eleanor Reinhart and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Pauline's life will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Huntersland Volunteer Fire Department, 1337 Huntersland Rd., Middleburgh. Inurnment will be at the family's convenience.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, Middleburgh and the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, Cobleskill.
