Cobleskill- Patricia Jean Sperbeck, 93, most recently of Deer Lane, Cobleskill, New York died Saturday, November 30, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 3, 1931, at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Wendell Robarge and Emma Spawn Robarge. She spent much of her childhood in Johnstown, NY, until moving to Richmondville.
In Johnstown she attended St. Patrick's Catholic School up through 7th grade. She entered 8th grade in Richmondville and graduated in 1949. While attending school she sang in the Glee Club, was a cheerleader, and the school band's first majorette. At the first parade competition in Oneonta, NY's Fireman's Day annual event she took first prize for being a drum majorette.
Throughout her career she worked for several employers: Elmer Little & Sons Glove Shop, Fisk Gas, Rodewig Chevrolet as Office Manager, Bank of Richmondville, Gary Morgan Chevrolet, the Community Action Program, which was a federally funded youth camp, where she served as Mainstream Program's Officer Manager, and Berard Oil Company as a bookkeeper.
On September 3, 1950, at St. Anna's Catholic Church in Summit, NY, Patricia married Maurice J. Sperbeck. They moved to Naples, FL in December 1993, upon retirement. She attended St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, where she was a communicant. She was also a communicant of St. Anna's Catholic Church in Summit and St. Vincent de Paul's Catholic Church in Cobleskill.
She served as Captain of the Richmondville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed motor home trips, crocheting Afghans, roller-skating, parade marching, and camping.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice J. Sperbeck: brothers, Richard Robarge, Robert Robarge: sister, Maryann Bradt: granddaughter, Kimberly McCann: and grandson, Daniel M. Sperbeck.
Patricia is survived by her 4 children, James R. Sperbeck (Cherrie) of Naples, FL, JoAnn McCann of Richmondville, NY, Jeffrey L. Sperbeck (Kelly) of Richmondville, NY, Judy A. Bywater (Gary) of Cobleskill, NY: 12 grandchildren, Stephen M. Sperbeck, Timothy J. Sperbeck, Jessica A. Beecher, Rebecca L. Lampron, Robert W. McCann, III, Joshua J. McCann, Matthew S. McCann, Justin M. McCann, Melissa M. Makarowski, Jeffrey R. Sperbeck, Christopher M. Bywater, Kyle N. Bywater: 22 great-grandchildren, Kimberly A. Sperbeck, Stephen M. Sperbeck, Jr., Bella A. Sperbeck, Mason J. Sperbeck, Allie Beecher, Anna C. Beecher, Kimberly E. McCann, David R. McCann, Jaylen E. Lampron, Brady D. Lampron, Colin J. Lampron, Bryce J. McCann, Joanna S. McCann, Blake S. McCann, Brock S. McCann, Ryan Makarowski, Ava Makarowski, Jacob Makarowski, Harper Sperbeck, Harrison Sperbeck, Jackson M. Bywater, Anderson H. Bywater: 3 great-great-grandchildren, Colin Paparella, Cooper Maynard, Dallas Juhl: as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043. A memorial service will follow at Noon at the funeral home with Father Joseph Arockiasamy officiating. Burial will take place in Richmondville Rural Cemetery at a later date.
