Norva Munford

Cobleskill: Norva R. Munford, 85, of Pleasantview Drive, died Friday, September 26, 2014 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, following a brief illness.

Norva was born in Ithaca on September 25, 1929, a daughter of Margaret E. (Woodling) and Harry E. Havens.

Norva received her Master's degree in Library Science from Syracuse University. She worked at the Mohawk Valley Community College and then as a civilian employee of the United States Army, running base libraries in Germany. Norva later worked at SUNY Cobleskill as a librarian, retiring from full-time work in 1985.

She enjoyed painting, traveling, reading, and was a member of the New Century Club and the Schoharie County Arts Council.

Norva was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cobleskill and served as a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher and was a member of the choir.

Besides her parents, Norva was predeceased by her siblings: Iva Hetrick, Dorothy Fitzpatrick, Hugh Havens and Clifford Havens.

Norva is survived by her daughter: Dawn (Thomas) Butkowsky of Chatham, MA; son: Stephen (Theresa) Munford of Howes Cave; granddaughters: Margaret Butkowsky of Chatham, MA, Rachel Munford of Ithaca, Morgan Brown on Quaker Street, Maria Brown of Howes Cave; grandson: Ian Butkowsky of Mansfield, MA.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Norva will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 492 Main Street, Cobleskill. A period of visitation will be held at the church prior to the service, from 1 to 2 PM. Following the service a gathering will be held so memories and stories of Norva may be shared and refreshments enjoyed.
