Roseboom- Norma J. VanBuren, 75, of John Deere Road died Thursday, December 29, 2022 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born May 28, 1947 in Cobleskill, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Mary Jane (Boughton) Johns. She married Jack D. VanBuren on August 21, 1965 at the young age of 18.
Devoted to each other, they celebrated 57 years of marriage this past August and it surely wasn't without struggles which only enriched their lives together. Not only was she a farmer's wife, Norma raised their four sons along with numerous other children that frequently were at the farmhouse throughout the years. She managed to work at the former Cherry Valley Springfield School District for 18 years in the maintenance department and also as a bus monitor. At the end of her work day, it was home to tend to the boys and their activities, help Jack with chores on the farm, provide a family dinner and then assist with the homework assignments.
Norma was community minded, serving as an EMT and also on the fireman's auxiliary for Cherry Valley. She was one of the main coordinators for the annual Roseboom Antique Tractor Show. One might say she was the backbone to this event as she served as treasurer, secretary, as well as spearheading the Chinese Auction by fundraising for the event and purchasing items such as scratch off tickets.
Norma thoroughly enjoyed watching the cardinals and orioles.
Forever cherishing their memories are her husband, Jack; sons: Brian (Deb) VanBuren of Greenville, TN, Kevin VanBuren, Stacy (Lorel) VanBuren, and Aaron VanBuren all of Roseboom; her sister, Esther Banks of Schenectady; and eight grandchildren: Cody, Abby, Johnny, Amanda, Mitchell, Felicia, Alexis, and Avery; numerous nieces and nephews as well as the many people in the community that her life has touched, especially Katie and Julianna, both of whom are disabled.
A Celebration of Life will be held later in 2023. Those wishing to memorialize Norma may send a contributions to Helios Care, 297 River St Service Road, Suite 1, Oneonta, NY 13820.
Arrangements are entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill where online condolences may be extended to the family at
