Nelson Castro

Seward – Nelson D. Castro, 63, of Seward, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 23, 1954 in Manhattan, he was the son of Domingo and Dolores (Garcia) Castro.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1974 until 1977.  On September 17, 1988, he married his wife, Sheri.

Nelson worked as a highway maintenance supervisor for the Department of Transportation in Cobleskill. Nelson enjoyed spending time with his family and also fishing, playing guitar and music.

Cherishing memories of Nelson are his three children:  William (Hillary) Taylor of Warnerville, James (MacKenzee) Castro of Cobleskill, and Stephanie (Josh) Castro-Fletcher of Central Bridge, along with four grandchildren:  Lucy and Melody Taylor, Jacob Castro and Dominic Castro-Fletcher; three brothers, Ralph Castro, Homer Castro, and Carl Castro, all of Sharon Springs, and one sister, Nancy Castro of Middleburgh and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service that will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 26, 2018 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.  A period of visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 AM to 11 AM.  Interment with military honors will be at the Saratoga National Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2018.
