Cobleskill- Nelson "Ray" Bruce, 94, formerly of Hubb Shutts Road, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at his granddaughter's home.

Born June 4, 1920 in Lutheranville, he was the son of Nelson J. and Nellie O. (Silvernail) Bruce.

Ray retired in 1982 from the NYS Dept. of Transportation in Cobleskill. He was a member of the Richmondville United Methodist Church and for many years the Wesleyan Church in Cobleskill.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marion (Chase) Bruce, who died July 7, 2008, two sisters: Elma Baker and Olena Joslyn, and a nephew: Charles Cohn.

Survivors include his son: Gregory (Karri) Zeh of Cobleskill; stepdaughter: Edith (Theodore) Strobeck of Cobleskill; six grandchildren, Kimberly (Robert)Hoop of Cobleskill, Denise (Paul) Davis of Sharon Springs, Wenda Zeh of Sharon Springs, Lorrie Holt of Clifton Park, Theodore (Jody) Strobeck of Cobleskill, and Sherry (Richard) Slater of Richmondville; great-grandchildren: Amanda Sword of Cobleskill, Aimee Hoop of Cobleskill, Paul Ray and Dylan Davis of Sharon Springs, James (Megan) Waddell of Warnerville, Mark Shaffer of Clifton Park, Matthew (Michele)Strobeck, Bradley (Nicole) Strobeck, and Kyle Strobeck of Cobleskill, Christopher Holt of Esperance, Scott Slater of Richmondville and Stacey Hayes of Cobleskill; several great-great-grandchildren including: Alexa Young, Mackenzee Sword, Matthew Phillips, Ayden Waddell, and Kolten Davis; a cousin: Monica Christenson of CA; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Richard P. Bean officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday. Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
