Carlisle- Mrs. Myrtle E. Smith, 85, of Evergreen Road, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.
Mrs. Smith was born October 14, 1921 in Howes Cave, NY, the daughter of Milo and Effie (Wheaton) Springstead.
A homemaker all her life, Mrs. Smith was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmondville and a member of its Eureka Class. She was also a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Marion Study Club and Ralph Sperbeck American Legion Auxiliary of Richmondville. She was a veteran serving with WAAC during World War II.
Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband, Alva L. Smith and 2 sons, James Smith and Joseph Smith.
Survivors include 2 daughters: Judy (Charlie) Purchla of Lake George and Jane (Ray) Rosscoe of Carlisle; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Smith of Richmondville; 2 sons: Jerry (Jacklyn) Smith of Santa Clarita, CA, and Jeffrey (Allyce) Smith of Richmondville; 2 sisters: Marion (Francis) Lussier of Hadley, NY and June Slater of Cobleskill; a brother, Mason Springstead of West Coxsackie; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Main St. Richmondville with Rev. Gary Edmister officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM on Wed. at the church.
Burial will be in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
