Muriel Holmes

Formerly of Cobleskill, Muriel J. Holmes passed away peacefully with family at her side January 16, 2021 at St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in St. Johnsville NY where she had been a resident since May of 2012.

Born September 11, 1924 in Hartford, CT she was the daughter of Ora and Mary (Wutsch) Kniskern.

Muriel was a lifelong resident of Seward/Cobleskill and a graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School. She was a life member of the Lawyersville Reformed Church where she was the Superintendent and a Teacher of the Sunday School.  She was very active in her community with the Cooperative Ext., 4-H and the Democratic committee.  Muriel loved to sew, she completed tailoring classes at Cornell, and was quite the accomplished seamstress. She loved to cook and was well known for her popcorn balls and molasses cookies, loved music, NASCAR, and gardening. Muriel also assisted in the daily operations of the family farm.

Muriel loved her husband and family most of all. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone she met. She was truly cherished and loved by family and all who knew her. She will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, and her son, Douglas, as well as her siblings: Donald Kniskern, Dorothy Sagandorf and William Kniskern.

Survivors include her son, Russell (Marcy) Holmes of NY and her grandchildren: Lisa (Michael) Greene of CT, Bryan (Melissa) Holmes of NV, Jason (Bobbi-Jo) Holmes of NC, Charlie (Samantha) Holmes of NY, Mark (Haley) Regan of NY, Andrew (Jayme) Regan of GA; several nieces and nephews as well as 9 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1PM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery, Hillview Section.
