Milo Maxam

Middleburgh - Milo F. Maxam, 91, of Prospect St., died Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at his residence following a short illness.

Born June 25, 1920 in Utica, NY, he was the son of Frank G. and Rose A. (Kunz) Maxam.

Milo resided in the Rome, Westmoreland area most of his life. He and his wife, Helen, lived in Florida from 1984 until 1994 when they then moved to Middleburgh.

He was a United States Navy veteran, proudly serving his country during World War II from 1944 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. Milo retired from the Griffis Air Force Base in Rome where he was a civil engineer.

He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Spending time with his family brought him the most pleasure and he cherished the special friendships that he developed with his neighbors.

Milo was predeceased by his wife, Helen, in 2009 and his son, James, in 1990.

Survivors include his two children: Bruce (Bonnie) Maxam of Dexter, NY, and Suzanne Spear of Latham; two grandchildren: James (Jennifer) Maxam of Denver, CO and Kathleen (Thomas) Higgins of Wichita, KS; and six great-grandhildren: Natalie Maxam, James, Joseph, Charles, Thomas, and Margaret Higgins.

A private graveside service will be held at Westmoreland Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 795 E. Main St., Suite 11, Cobleskill, NY 12043.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
