Cobleskill- Mrs. Mildred Bresee Jackson, 94, of Hammerstone Village Apartments, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Cobleskill Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Mrs. Jackson was born October 18, 1912, in Sherberne, NY, the daughter of Russell and Eva (McQuad) Bresee. She graduated from Earville High School in 1928, Norwich High School in 1929, and Albany Business College in 1930. Mrs. Jackson attended the Department of Agriculture Graduated School in 1942.
Mrs. Jackson worked as a legal secretary for Bopp, Merritt Attorneys in Albany and for 10 years was employed at Fenimore Fabrics in Cobleskill, and went on to work for Leland Jones Attorney at Law, Selkirk's Hardware, the former Cobleskill Central School, Harder Refrigerator Corp. and Niagara Mohawk Power Company, was temporary manager for Cobleskill Golf and Country Club Restaurant.
In 1942 she moved to Washington, DC and a year later joined John Hopkins Red Cross unit and was posted to New Zealand and the Fiji Islands. In 1944 she joined the Army attach? service and served in Manilla, Philipine Islands, and Fuchu, Japan and in 1948 she posted to the American Embassy in Teheran, Iran where she met and married James A. Jackson USAAF, in 1949. From 1950 through 1968 they moved numerous times due to his assignments, living in Memphis, TN, Dayton, OH, Long Island, NY, Washington, DC, Houston TX, Bangkok, Thailand, and Tacoma, WA.
Mrs. Jackson volunteered as a Republican in 1968 to work for various congressmen and senators. She was a volunteer aid to Mrs. Richard Nixon in the White House and then later took a position as secretary to Senator William Roth of Deleware for 12 years until retirement.
She was an avid reader, writer, and was a member of the International Women's Guild. Mrs. Jackson was a supporter of the Washington Cathedral Buildings Fund and local charities.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, in 2003 and sister, Clara Putnam.
Survivors include her son, Jan A. Jackson and his companion, Linda Perras of Cobleskill; brothers and sisters-in-law: Charles Jackson of Pinehurst, NC, Tom Jackson of Huntsville, AL, Bill Jackson of Memphis, TN, Curtis Jackson of Birmingham, AL, John and Virginia Morris of San Diego, CA, and Walter and Kate Mydlow of Greensboro, NC and 2 nephews, Thomas (Dusty) Putnam of Schoharie and James Putnam of Charlotte, NC
A private graveside service will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at the family's convenience.
