Cobleskill- Mildred J. Erikson, 96, of Cobleskill, died Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Cooperstown Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born May 15, 1923 in Seward, NY, she was the daughter of James and Alice (Kimmey) Bellinger.
Mildred retired as a Clerk from the Bank of Richmondville, and prior was a lifelong farmer’s wife and also had worked at SUNY Cobleskill earlier in her life.
Mildred was the matriarch of her family, and lived every day for them. She would give of herself to anyone at any time. One of her greatest joys were her many grandchildren. She was a member of the Lawyersville Reformed Church and assisted with the social functions at church. Along with love of her family, she found pleasure in her church and flowers. She even enjoyed a good game of dominoes. She was well known for her baking skills and loved to share the fruits of her labors.
Mildred is survived by her children: Bonnie (Richard) Hohler and Sheryl Trafton both of Cherry Valley, Jeanette (Niel) Rivenburgh of Elbridge, NY, Janet (Whitford) Erikson of Cobleskill, and Eric Erikson of Baldwinsville; seven grandchildren: Robert (Noelle) Gridley of Dolgeville, Steven (Alison) Gridley of Cherry Valley, Amy (Darren) Johnson of Amite, LA, Katrina Trafton of Sharon Springs, Taylor and Ryan Rivenburgh of Elbridge, Michele (Sean) Proskine of Sedalia, MO, four great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Oliver, and Adalynn Gridley all of Cherry Valley, and Taylor Proskine of Charleston, SC, and one great-great-grandson, Cesar Hernandez of Charleston, SC.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1993 her son, Craig, in 2017, and son-in-law, Gary Trafton in 2013, her brother, Franklin Bellinger, and her sister, Irene Ottman.
A funeral service will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with a period of visitation preceding from 2PM until the service. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Ferenczy of the Lawyersville and Sharon Springs Reformed Church. Spring interment will be in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon, NY.
