Summit- Maurice "Pete" Gray, 87, of Gray Road, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.
Born February 15, 1925 in Summit, he was the son of Claude and Mary (Von Linden) Gray. Pete was a lifelong area resident, living in the same home that he was born in.
Pete was raised on the family dairy farm and later purchased and operated it. He also did logging and trucked cows and coal from PA. In the 1960's he became a self employed well driller.
A member of the Summit Volunteer Fire Department, he was one of the founding fathers.
Survivors include his four daughters: Irmchen Kuhn of Grand Gorge, Claudia Bilby of Fort Pierce, FL, Karen Markley and Elaine Seacord, both of Warnerville; four grandchildren, six great-grandchild, and one great-great-grandson; and his longtime, faithful friend: Phily Skowfoe.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM (noon) on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Summit United Methodist Church, State Route 10, Summit, NY with Elder Otto Enderson officiating. Inurnment will be in Summit Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Summit Volunteer Rescue Squad or Fire Dept., or the Summit United Methodist Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.
