Maude Haskin

Gilboa- A golden heart stopped beating and on August 21, 2015, Maude Bailey Haskin, 102, followed the stars into the promise ahead, to begin anew in the land of new beginnings.
Maude was born July 28, 1913 in Flat Creek, Gilboa, to Clive Bailey and Edith DeLong Bailey. She married Almon "Josh" Haskin on March 27, 1932, and he predeceased her on May 10, 1987. Maude was also predeceased by her brother George Bailey, sister Clyda Mace, grandson Larry Mattice, daughter and son-in-law Loretta and Willie Latta, son-in-law Paul Mattice, and niece Joyce Bailey, all of whom were there to greet her when she left this world.
Maude is survived by her daughter, Beatrice Mattice (Bill Snyder) of Gilboa, three grandchildren, Cindy (Daryl) Buel of Broome Center, Laurel Mattice of Conesville, and Ted (Camie) Latta of Gilboa, seven great-grandchildren Mandy VanValkenburgh of Broome Center, Stephanie Truesdell of Conesville, Artie Choate (Shauna Mead) of Hawaii, Jessy Buel (Donald Brown) of Gilboa, Dustin (Delana) Truesdell of Gilboa, Zachary Truesdell of Conesville, Tyler Latta (Lacey Haskin) of Mackey, and five great-great grandchildren Keeley, Taryn, and Aubrey VanValkenburgh of Broome Center, and Keylanah and Maile Choate of Hawaii, and she was excitedly awaiting the birth of her sixth great-great grandchild in January.
Maude was a member of the first class attending the Gilboa School that was built when the original dam was built. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm and boarding house for 45 years, and she was also cafeteria manager at Gilboa School. She was a staunch Republican, served as Schoharie County Committeeman for 20 years, was past president of the Women's Republican Club, and was a Deputy Sheriff and Court Officer for the County and Supreme Court. She was a member of the Broome Center Chapel Church and the Conesville Mountain Top Seniors.
Maude celebrated her 100th birthday with a party held on July 28, 2013 and was so happy that over 170 guests attended to help her celebrate that special day. She was a great cook and made the best jam and strawberry rhubarb pies, and she lived in her own home until October 2014 when she moved to Robinson Terrace in Stamford. She enjoyed her outdoor Christmas lights, an ice cream cone or sundae, crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She was always ready whenever anyone asked "do you want to go" and never turned down an opportunity to spend time with her family and enjoyed many birthday parties and holidays with them, always asking "what can I bring?"
Calling hours will be 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, August 27 at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, NY with funeral services on Friday, August 28 at 10 a.m. at the Broome Center Chapel Church with Pastor Jason Thompson presiding.
