Orchard Park - Matthew Scott Benac, 42, of Orchard Park, New York, died on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023.
Born Dec. 29, 1980, in Red Bank, New Jersey, he was the son of Kathleen A. Henry-Girsdansky and Peter P. Benac. He graduated from Cobleskill-Richmondville Central School and attended Hudson Valley Community College.
Matthew married Amber Keller on Aug. 16, 2003, and was looking forward to celebrating their 20th anniversary. Together, they had three wonderful children and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Matthew enjoyed his daughter’s viola performances and shared a love of wrestling and football with his children. He was proud of all of their achievements. Matthew cherished his annual Lake Ontario fishing trips with his sons and brother-in-law, Niel Keller. He and his family were avid Buffalo Bills fans, and he served as a volunteer moderator for the Buffalo Bills and Other Sports Ticket Sales.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Amber Benac, of Orchard Park, New York; children, Timothy, Kaleb and Sydney Benac, of Orchard Park, New York; mother, Kathleen A. Henry-Girsdansky, of Seward, New York; sister, Gwendolyn (Zach) Matson and their son, Bryer; cousins, Caitlyn Perry, Molly Perry, Ashley Perry and Erin Henry and their families, Ryan Henry and Brandon Henry; his uncle, Kevin (Madeline) Henry; his aunt, Barbara (Rodney) Perry; father, Peter P. (Rita) Benac; and siblings, Cody Benac, Lacey Rusaw, Ellen West Grantham and Tracey West Ruffin and families. Many beloved extended family members also survive.
Matthew was predeceased by his grandparents, William D. and Therese M. (Cooper) Henry and Herman L. Benac and Marion L. (Patnode) Benac; his sister, Emilie Suzanne Benac; step-father, Paul S. Girsdansky; and cousin (“brother”), Roderick Perry.
Calling hours will be held 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2023, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, NY 12043. A gathering for family and friends will be held on Friday, Aug. 25, 2023 from Noon to 3 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 152 Legion Drive, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
