HUNTERSLAND, NY: Mary E. Porter, 68, of Huntersland, died on Wed., Mar. 1, 2006 at her daughter's home in Middleburgh.
Mary was born on Mar. 4, 1937 in Staten Island, NY, a daughter of Arthur G. Sr. and Catherine Tobin Belden.
At one time Mary worked for the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance but her most important job was raising her own family and 23 foster children. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, writing, reading and painting. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother.
Mary was a member of the Huntersland United Methodist Church, Huntersland Fire Depart. Ladies Auxiliary, and the Huntersland 4H Club.

She was predeceased by her husband Ray E. Porter on Oct. 10, 1994, a son Harold Porter on Nov. 11, 1988, son in law Ricky Stephens on Aug. 1, 1995, step grand sons: David S. Stephens on Dec. 18, 1994 and Garrett M. Barton on July 9, 2003.
Friends may call Sat. afternoon, Mar. 4, 2006 from 12:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, NY. A funeral service will take place at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Carol Coltrain officiating.. A spring interment will be in Middleburgh Cemetery
