Cobleskill- Mary Ann Mallia, 90, formerly of Madison Ave., died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center where she has been a resident for the past few years.
Born September 29, 1931, she was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Kane) Johnson. Mary was a graduate of the former St. Columba Catholic School in Schenectady, class of 1948. She married Robert Mallia on November 29, 1952, and together they had four children and raised them in Cobleskill.
Mary was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cobleskill where she was a former trustee, serving ten years. She was also past president of the Altar & Rosary Society, served on the Parish Council for thirteen years and taught religious education for twenty-six years.
Mary was an enthusiastic supporter of the Chicago Cubs and an official member of the Die-Hard Cub Fan Club since 1982. She enjoyed her regular card club gatherings and bus trip outings.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Robert, on October 27, 2010, and her brother, Patrick F. Johnson, on September 29, 2014.
She was the loving mother of Mary Ellen Mallia (Bennett Braun) of Princetown, Robert J. Mallia of Minnesota, Timothy P. Mallia of Howes Cave, and Mark J. (Jean) Mallia of Maui, HI; sister to Virginia Chartrand of Middletown, OH; and cherished grandmother to James Mallia, Casey (David) Hendrick and Mylea Braun; and great-grandmother to Tyler, Ryan and Blake Mallia and Braydon VanValkenburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill with Father Joseph Arockiasamy as celebrant. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 4 to 6PM on Friday, January 21, 2022 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Spring interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center for their years of care and service to Mary’s needs.
