Central Bridge- Marvin "Sonny" J. Bowers, 83, of State Route 7, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at his residence.

Born May 12, 1933 in Schoharie he was the son of Frederick and Almyra (Pickett) Bowers.

Sonny was a lifelong area resident and was the proprietor of Bowers Gas Station in Central Bridge for many years. He also drove school bus for Schoharie Central School District for thirty-five years.

Sonny was a member of the Central Bridge United Methodist Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Martha (DeBevoise) Bowers, whom he married October 18, 1958, and his two sisters: Lillian Wolfe and Marion Stalker.

Survivors include his son, Frederick Marvin Bowers of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and his dear friend, Paul Kennedy of Central Bridge.

A funeral service will be held at 7 PM on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill where a period of visitation will be held prior to the service from 6 to 7PM. Officiating will be Rev. Jeffrey Smith of the Central Bridge United Methodist Church. Spring interment will be in Bramanville-Prospect Cemetery, Howes Cave.
