Martin Holmes

Cobleskill- Martin B. Holmes,91, of Cobleskill, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Palatine Bridge Nursing Home where he had been a resident for nearly a year.
Mr. Holmes was born December 21, 1916 in Seward, NY, the son of Birdsell and Ethel (Clark) Holmes.
Mr. Holmes received an associate's degree in agriculture from SUNY Cobleskill and retired from the college where he was employed in the maintenance department for 11 years. He also operated a dairy farm on Loonenburgh Turnpike and sold it in 1965.
Mr. Holmes served as superintendent of streets for the Village of Cobleskill for 3 ? years and 4 years as a laborer for the Town of Cobleskill.
He was a member of the Lawyersville Reformed Church where he served as an elder, deacon, superintendent of Sunday School, President of the Men's Club and President the Lawyersville Cemetery Association.
Mr. Holmes was predeceased by a grandson, Donald Comins.
Survivors include his wife Erma (Sternberg) Holmes whom he married July 19, 1938; 2 daughters, Lola Fletcher of Sharon Springs, and Lois Comins of Canajoharie and 3 grandchildren, Gina Proctor of Howes Cave, Michelle Keaney of Sharon Springs, and Dianne Barrett of Portland, OR, 6 great-grandchildren: Joshua Fletcher, Meghan Keaney, Samantha Keaney, Jessica Comins all of Sharon Springs, Ruby Barrett of Portland, OR, and Skyler Comins of Lake Placid; and 1 great-great-grandson, Dominic Fletcher of Sharon Springs.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm Street Cobleskill with Rev. Judson Marvel of the Lawyersville Reformed Church. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in Slate Hill Cemetery.
