Richmondville- Marjorie "Marge" H. Sperbeck, 78, of High Street, died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown following a short illness.
Born in Grand Gorge, NY on October 31, 1933, she was the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Moseman) Haddon.
Marge received an associate's degree in Business Administration from Schenectady Community College and retired as an installation supervisor from Verizon in Cobleskill after thirty-eight years of service. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She served as a former Town Assessor for Richmondville, and chairperson for the Board of Assessment Review, was a member of the Richmondville Historical Society and the Richmondville Beautification Committee. Marge also volunteered at Proctor's Theater in Schenectady.
She found pleasure in taking Sunday rides in her red mustang, along with traveling on bus trips and dining at various restaurants.
Marge was predeceased by her husband, Clifford "Kippy" R. Sperbeck, in 2000 and her son, Mark Sperbeck, who died in 1997.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Todd C. and Cheryl Sperbeck of Richmondville; two grandchildren: Drew Sperbeck of Richmondville and Elizabeth Cawley Carino and her husband, Justin, of Hyde Park; her great-grandson: Philip Anthony Carino of Hyde Park; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Victor R. Zaccaro officiating. Inurnment will follow in Richmondville Rural Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Wed. at the funeral home.
