Jefferson- Marjorie May Danforth Dayton, 103, a resident of Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, Schenectady, NY, passed away on May 30, 2012 with her loving family by her side. She was born at the Danforth Century Farm on December 5, 1908 in Jefferson, NY. She was the daughter of Everett and Anna Cooper Danforth.

Marjorie married Kenneth Wilsey Dayton in a double wedding ceremony at the Danforth Farm on October 10, 1928. Kenneth and Marjorie operated the Dayton Poultry Farm and Hatchery in North Harpersfield for over 40 years. She was the Superintendent of the North Harpersfield Methodist Church Sunday School for over 20 years. She was active in the Jefferson Methodist Church, Colonel Harper Grange, Stamford Hospital Auxiliary, Harpersfield Historical Society and the Abrigail Harper DAR. She was a secretary for the NYS Conservation Department in Stamford, NY. In her retirement, she and her husband spent 21 years in Delray Beach, FL.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Kenneth; her sisters: Eloise Weaver, M. Grace Davenport, Alice Danforth, Julia Foote and her brother, George Danforth.

Marjorie is survived by her loving children, Dawn Lewis of Scotia, NY and K. Dan Dayton (M. Sue) of Schenectady, NY, and her brother, Paul Danforth. She is survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Jefferson Methodist Church with a reception in the church social hall to follow the committal service. Inurnment will be in Jefferson Evergreen Cemetery. A period of visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM.

Marjorie's grandfather, Rev. Alvin Cooper, was a minister at the Jefferson Presbyterian Church at one time, which has inspired the family to suggest memorial contributions be made to the Restoration Fund of the Jefferson Presbyterian Church, c/o Jefferson Historical Society, PO Box 34, Jefferson, NY 12093.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.
