Marion Moot

Richmondville- Marion A. Moot, 100, of River Street, died Saturday, Oct 31, 2009, at her residence after a short illness.

Mrs. Moot was born March 29, 1909 in Richmondville, NY, and was the daughter of Floyd and Leola (Sisson) Smith.

She was the Valedictorian of the former Richmondville Central School class of 1927, and graduated from Cobleskill Agricultural and Technical College's teacher training curriculum in 1929. Upon graduation, she taught for two years in a one room schoolhouse in Summit, NY. She also worked as a summer waitress at the Roseboro Hotel in Sharon Springs and the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, NY.

Mrs. Moot served for 4 years as Deputy Town Clerk of Richmondville and wrote the Town of Richmondville tax assessment book for many years until the change to computers. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, its Eureka Class, the Altar Guild, their choir, the Ladies Missionary Society, their pianist and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Schoharie County Choral Society, the Richmondville Historical Society, the Richmondville Central School Alumni Association, and was a tax preparer for 35 plus years before retiring in 1999.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas G. Moot, who died in 1965, a son, Ralph Moot, who died in 1997, and a brother, Wilmer Smith, who died in 2002.

Mrs. Moot is survived by a son, Harrison James (Dorothy) Moot, two daughters, Carol (Ronald) Maurice and Jeannie I. Chase, all of Richmondville, a sister, Marjorie Friend of Guilderland, four Grandchildren, Brian Davis of Great Valley, NY, Sylvia Letteron of Ft. Plain, NY, Timothy Moot of Hurley, NY and Richard Shiminski, Jr. of Earlville, NY, six Great Grandchildren, Erika Davis, Aurore, Gabriel and Noel LaVine, James and John Moot, as well as three Nieces, Barbara Fitzwilliam, Allison Bode and Kay Friend.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, Nov. 9, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Main Street, Richmondville, NY with Rev. Paul Messner officiating. Inurnment will follow in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.

At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Main Street, Richmondville, NY 12149.
