Cobleskill- Marion E. Byrnes (Cochrane) died suddenly, Friday Sept 10, 2010, beloved mother, and grandmother.
Born Nov 12, 1918 in Richmondville, NY, she was predeceased by her father, Charles H. Cochrane, and mother,(Clara) Mae Reeves Cochrane, brothers Clifford, Curtis, Russell, husband, George C. and daughter, Margaret M.
Marion was a 1936 graduate of Richmondville Central School and married in August 1936. She and George lived in Middleburgh and Cobleskill while first running the A&P market, followed by the Olympian Bowling Lanes, Division St. in Cobleskill. Later they were managers of the Cobleskill Lanes.
Marion returned to school, earning a degree in business from the Spencer Business School in Schenectady and went to work as Village Clerk of Cobleskill in 1975, retiring in 1985. She later served multiple terms as the first woman Trustee on the Village Board.
She leaves a daughter, Jean (Jack) Knapp of Venice FL; sons George C Jr. (Penny) of Lago Vista TX, and Joseph (Carol) of Rochester NY, as well as five grandsons, three granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren.
She was a communicant of St. Vincent De Paul Church in Cobleskill.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill with Father Thomas F. Holmes as celebrant. Friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6PM to 8PM on Monday, Sept. 13, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Cobleskill.
