Cobleskill- Mrs. Marion A. Bruce, 89, of Hubb Shutts Road, died Monday, July 7, 2008 at her granddaughter's home.
Mrs. Bruce was born July 3, 1919 in Barnerville, the daughter of Clifford L. and Rosa (Slater) Chase.
She was a lifelong area resident and retired from the former Van Deusen Dress Factory in Cobleskill where she was a seamstress. She was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Cobleskill.
Mrs. Bruce was predeceased by 4 sisters: Sarah Chase, Dorothy Palmer, Catherine Kern and Ina Mabie and 4 brothers: Robert and Clifford Chase, Jr., George Mabie and Clarence Mabie.
She is survived by her husband, Nelson Ray Bruce, whom she married January 25, 1964 in the Richmondville United Methodist Church; a son, Gregory (Karri) Zeh of Cobleskill; step-daughter, Edith (Theodore) Strobeck of Cobleskill; 5 sisters: Viola Pitt of Philmont, NY, Hilda Graham of Amsterdam, Ella Davis of Fultonville, Dora Mae Humphrey of Speculator, and Loretta Williams of Fort Plain; a brother, Leslie Chase of Fort Plain; grandchildren: Kimberly (Robert) Hoop of Cobleskill, Denise (Paul) Davis of Sharon Springs, and Wenda Zeh (Brian Waddell) of Esperance, Lorrie Holt of Cobleskill, Theodore G. (Jody) Strobeck of Cobleskill and Sherry (Richard) Slater of Richmondville; great-grandchildren: Amanda and Aimee Hoop of Cobleskill, Paul Ray and Dylan Davis of Sharon Springs, James Waddell of Esperance, Mark Shaffer of Richmondville, Matthew, Bradley and Kyle Strobeck of Cobleskill, Christopher Holt of Esperance, Scott Slater of Richmondville, and Stacey Hayes of Cobleskill, and 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 11 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm St. Cobleskill with Rev. Donald Klob officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
