Cobleskill- Marie L. Stanton, 85, of Early Woodland Apartments, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, with her loving family at her side.
Born November 9, 1928 in Hensonville, NY, on the William Lonley farm. She was the daughter of A. Lloyd and Fannie (Tompkins) Spaulding.
Marie retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where she was a clerk at the Howes Cave office.
Marie was an active member and of First Baptist Church where she was secretary, treasurer for over forty years and teacher for Sunday School, the Wianotha Rebekah Lodge of Schenevus where she was past district deputy, assembly marshal, and noble grand, and a volunteer for the Salvation Army.
She married Milton L. Stanton on January 5, 1947 and he predeceased her November 7, 2012. Marie was also predeceased by a brother, LeRoy Spaulding.
Survivors include four children: Lucinda (John) McClure of Cobleskill, Susan (Robert) Waggoner of St. Francis, MN, Ronald M. (Donna) Stanton of Jacksonville, FL, and Alan J. (Wendy) Stanton of Clarks Summit, PA ; 10 grandchildren: Beth (Butch) Taylor, Amy (Donald) France, Jennifer McClure, Heather (Scott) Johnson, Jonathan (Juli) Burner, Jason Burner, Nathan Stanton, Sarah Stanton, Rachel Stanton, and Jack Stanton; six great-grandchildren; Aaron France, Megan Taylor, Logan Choate, Colin Burner, Seth Johnson and Sean Johnson; five siblings: Helen (Sam) Warner of Cobleskill, Jessie (Robert) Cole of Stone Ridge, NY, Martha Mann of Queensbury, Clinton Spaulding of Seward and Charles (Arlene) Spaulding of Ocala, FL; an uncle: Gordon Spaulding of Schenectady; a sister-in-law: Nancy Spaulding, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at First Baptist Church, 492 West Main St., Cobleskill with Rev. Julien Weil officiating. Family and friends are also invited to attend a period of visitation to be held from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill where a Rebekah service will be held at 6:45PM. Burial will be in Bramanville-Prospect Cemetery.
