Cobleskill- Margaret Portolano, 86, of Woodland Drive, formerly of Middleburgh, died Thursday February 27, 2014 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital following a brief illness.

Margaret was born on February 2, 1928 in Brooklyn, to Hazel (MacDonald) and Nicholas De Wolfe.

Margaret worked as a cook at Camp Cass in Rensselaerville before retiring.

She was a member and past president of several Auxiliaries including BPOE # 2040, Timothy Murphy Post #248, and the Schoharie County Legion. She was also a member of the VFW Post # 2161 Auxiliary.

Since moving to Cobleskill, Margaret enjoyed visiting with her "coffee club" friends, volunteering at the local food bank, and playing Bingo. Mostly, she enjoyed the pleasure of spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Barney Portolano, on March 8, 2003 and her sister: Mary Curro.

Margaret is survived by her children: Gregory (Christine Ward) Portolano of Middleburgh, Patricia (Marty) Martinez of Lake Ronkonkoma, Margaret Carlsen of Lake Ronkonkoma, Richard (Ann) Carlsen of Lake Grove, Charles Carlsen of Mt. Sinai; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 1 to 3 PM at the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 2040, Legion Drive, Cobleskill. Cremation took place at Vale Crematory in Schenectady. Private inurnment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Marge's dear friends and caregivers who provided her with wonderful care and got her to her needed appointments: Alice Palmatier, Margaret Bouck, and Millie Kane.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, Middleburgh and the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, Cobleskill.
