Port Orange, FL- Mrs. Margaret Rosecrans Leonhardt, 96, formerly of Schoharie County, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Hospice of Volusia Flagler Port Orange Care Center.
Born July 30, 1913 in the Town of Fulton, she was the daughter of Mott and Anna (Rosecrans) Lawyer. She was a direct descendant of the New York Revolutionary war hero, Timothy Murphy. Margaret was a graduate of Albany Nursing School and during World War II was employed at the Watervliet Arsenal.
In 1950, she moved to Schoharie where she worked at the Parrott House, and later moved to Texas, and then to Florida. While living in Florida, she was proprietor of Harbour Oaks Grocery Store in Port Orange.
Margaret was a member of Harbour Oaks Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for twenty years. The years she spent as a member of Westminster By-the-Sea Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach Shores, FL, were really special to her. She was a member of the Palmetto Club and very active in community events. Margaret was a volunteer for at least fifteen years at the Museum of Arts & Sciences and received the Volunteer of the Year Award. She also had an exhibit of antique dolls on display at the museum.
Margaret is survived by her nephew, Henry (Muriel) Robinson of Port Orange, Fl., great-nieces, Dr. Katherine Robinson of Montgomery Village, MD., Heather Taylor and her children, Erin and Finn Taylor of Chittenango, NY and great-nephew, David S.L. Robinson of Montgomery Village, MD.
A graveside service will be held at 1PM, Saturday, October 3,2009, in the old section of the Middleburgh Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Cremation took place in Florida.
