Cobleskill- Margaret L. Karker, 89, of Washington Ave., died Monday, January 17, 2011 at her residence following a brief illness.
She was born September 5, 1921 in Carlisle, NY and was the daughter of Schaeffer and Lena (Karker) Ottman.
Margaret was a longtime member of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church and a charter member of the hospital auxiliary.
A homemaker most of her life, she had also worked as a cafeteria aid at the former Cobleskill Central School. Margaret was an avid reader, loved to spend time with her family and tending to her garden and home.
She was predeceased by two brothers: Roy Ottman and Roland Ottman.
Survivors include her husband, Merton D. Karker, whom she married December 19, 1940 and they just celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary together; her three children: Margaret L. Karker of South Orleans, MA, Charles (Jane) Karker of Fort Plain, and Sue-Ann Karker of Cobleskill; two grandchildren: Philip Karker of Fort Plain and Chris-Jon (Tessie) Karker of Fort Plain; two great-grandchildren: Emma Mae Karker and Mckenna Lea Karker, both of Fort Plain; and her sister: Carolyn Bellinger of Troy, PA.; as well as several nieces & nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, with Rev. Barbara Ibarra officiating. A period of visitation will also be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
