Mahlon Gallup

Cobleskill- Mahlon Gallup, 81, formerly of Cobleskill died Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Capstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Amsterdam.

Born November 4, 1939 in Cobleskill, he was the son of Harold and Hilda (Smith) Gallup.

Mahlon was a 1958 graduate of the former Richmondville Central School.  He retired from The Cleaners in Clinton, NY where he operated the presser.

Mahlon married Kathy A. Myers on July 10, 1971 and she predeceased him on May 16, 2006.  He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Donald, Douglas and Keith Gallup.

He was an avid reader and appreciated listening to music, particularly Frank Sinatra and Barbara Streisand.  Taking Sunday family rides throughout the countryside and in his later years with his dear friend and copilot, Jane Palmatier, brought him much pleasure.  Mahlon cherished Jane’s companionship and they would often watch British comedies together.  Writing poetry was a passion of his. He enjoyed eating popcorn and watching his daily programs.

Continuing to always share his memories are his daughters:  Shelly (Matt) Sokolowski of Clover, SC and Marcy Gallup-Hughes of Schenectady; three sisters:  June Lape of Richmondville, Avis Francis of Avden, NC and Gertrude Culbert of Mew Milford, CT; and four grandchildren:  Bradley (Allie Snow) Stafford, Bryan Sokoloski, Aiden Hughes, and Liam Krug.

A private gathering will be held for the family with graveside service to be held in the spring at Summit Cemetery.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all who took special care of the father at Capstone Nursing & Rehabilitation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY  12043.
