Middleburgh- Mabel Bassler Campbell, 102, of Oakridge Adult Home in Esperance, passed away Saturday, September 07, 2013. Born December 9, 1910, she was the eldest child of Homer and Maria (Ayres) Bassler of Huntersland, NY.

She was a graduate of Middleburgh High School, received training as a teacher from SUNY Cobleskill and Oneonta Normal School, and earned her teaching degree from Paterson Teachers College in New Jersey. She taught in Middleburgh area rural schools for six years followed by 21 years teaching in New Jersey.

In 1937, she married Gordon Campbell. They lived in New Jersey for 32 years, returning to Middleburgh in 1969 following their retirement. Her husband Gordon passed away in 1981.

Mabel was a member of the Schoharie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and member and former Sunday school teacher of the Middleburgh United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sister Dorothy Madore of Esperance; her brother David Bassler of Bradenton, FL; two nieces, Ilene Sparrow of Summit and Cathie Ryder of Richmondville; and nephews, Paul Bassler of East Berne and Clifford Campbell of Middleburgh; several great-nieces, great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 12, 2013 with a calling hour from 10 to 11 AM preceding at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St. in Middleburgh. Officiating will be Rev. Mary Ellen Moore of the Middleburgh United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Middleburgh Cemetery.
