RICHMONDVILLE - Lynn M. Reightmyer, died May 12, 2011 at home with his family at his side.
He was born July 24, 1925 at home in Richmondville, NY to Meredith and Catherine (Meade) Reightmyer. Lynn married Evelyn Spaulding on June 6, 1948 at the Second Reformed Church in Howes Cave, NY.
He attended the former Richmondville Central School before going to work for the D&H Railroad. When the railroad had extensive layoffs in 1958, he went to work for Remington Rand in Cobleskill. In 1962 he started his employment with the maintenance department of SUNY at Cobleskill from which he retired in June 1989. After retiring, he enjoyed spending winters in New Smyrna Beach, FL . He also enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit his granddaughter and her family twice in St. Thomas, BVI. During the 1970's he and his wife traveled to Germany, France, and England.
Lynn was very active in the Richmondville United Methodist Church. He was a trustee of the church and of the Richmondville Rural Cemetery until recently when he resigned due to his illness. He was also a member of the Cobleskill B&PO Elks Lodge 2040 and an exempt member of the Richmondville Volunteer Fire Dept. He was an avid hunter and bowler, and bowled in several county leagues over the years. He also loved to dance, especially to the music of his friends, the Mustangs. Lynn was a devoted NY Yankees fan all of his life. A person of great pride in the appearance of their home and landscaping, he and his wife held numerous picnics and celebrations for family members and friends over the years. He was a devoted husband and father who dearly loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Reightmyer; one daughter: Linda (Dwight) Cunningham of Edgewater, FL; three sons: Richard Lynn Reightmyer of Jefferson, NY, John Reightmyer and William Reightmyer, both of Richmondville, NY: seven grandchildren, Tracy JnJacques of St. Thomas, BVI, Brian Wayman and Andrew Reightmyer, both of Richmondville, NY, Aarron Reightmyer of Carlisle, NY, John J. Reightmyer of Sanford, FL, Kristina Reightmyer of Cummington, MA, and Cody Reightmyer of Central Bridge, NY; six great-grandchildren: Taylor, Marley and Nollan Wayman, Kashayla and Khaden JnJacques, and Logan Reightmyer, two sisters: Shirley Pierce of Schoharie, NY and Thelma Reightmyer of Richmondville, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Crapser of Richmondville, who died on Feb. 1, of this year.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday May 16, 2011 at the Richmondville United Methodist Church, Main St, Richmondville, NY with Rev. Marvin Batcher and Rev. Victor Zaccaro co-officiating. Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6-8 pm, Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY Burial will be in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
