Louis Mead

Charlotteville- Louis R. Mead, 78, of Meade Road in Charlotteville, died Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.

Born August 26, 1939 in Charlotteville, he was the son of George Ray and Margaret (Manchester) Mead.  Louis attended Richmondville Central School where he met the love of his life, Bertha (Spooner) Mead whom he was married to for 58 years. Louis is predeceased by his parents and wife.

A lifelong area resident, Louis operated the family dairy farm in Charlotteville for many years. Later in life, Mr. Mead served as a bus driver for Charlotte Valley and fondly recalled many memories from this position. Louis served as an elected official in the Town of Summit both as Assessor and Supervisor and also served in a number of civic roles in the Village of Charlotteville.

A devoted husband and father, Louis is survived by his six children:  Susan Ghaly, George (Susan) Mead, Lawrence (Debra) Mead, Eric (Kim) Mead, Kelvin (Pat) Mead, and Moneta (Willard) Lamont; his sister-in-law, Oma (Jim) Broich; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A period of visitation will be Sunday, April 29th from 2:00-2:30 with funeral service beginning at 2:30 at the Charlotteville Fire House.  Officiating will be Rev. Paul Timmerman of the First Baptist Church in East Worcester, where Louis was a member.  Following the service, all are welcome to stay for a dinner at the fire house and are encouraged to bring a dish to pass.

A dual burial will take place on April 30th at 10:00 am with his wife Bertha who recently passed away.  The burial will be at the Charlotteville Rural Cemetery.
