Sprakers- Louis J. Bellinger Sr., 90, died on Sunday May 24, 2020 at the Palatine Nursing Home, one month shy of his 91st birthday.

Born June 24, 1929 in Cobleskill, he was the son of Louis A. and Thelma (Brown) Bellinger, who both predeceased him.

Lou served in the United States Airforce from 1947 to 1950. While stationed at Mitchel Air Force Base in Hempstead, Long Island, he was asked to do plowing on the runways at Mitchel Field and was given special commendations for this.  After his honorable discharge from the military, he worked for Lancaster Development for a few years.  In 1968 he started his own excavating business.

Louis was a true sportsman, spending his free time deer hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Mohawk Valley Anglers.  Lou has been married to his loving wife for 70 years and as they grew old together, they would winter in Avon Park, Florida.

Lou, as they called him, is survived by his wife, Agnes (Bretz) Bellinger of Sprakers, NY, his sons: Jim Bellinger of Sprakers and David H. Bellinger of Cypress, TX, four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and his brother, Ronald Kilmartin of Tulare, CA.  He was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Burgen.

Due to COVID-19, a private graveside service will be held for the family.

Memorial contributions may be made in Louis’s name to the Rural Grove Rescue Squad, 1192 NY-162, Sprakers, NY 12166.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY  12043.
