Loretta Latta

Loretta Latta, 74, died Mon. May 7, 2007 at the Countryside Care Center in Delhi, NY, after a brief illness. She was born in Albany, NY on Jan. 28, 1933 a daughter of Almon and Maude Bailey Haskin, and lived nearly her entire life in Gilboa, NY.

She was married on Oct.25, 1955 to Wilfred Latta, who predeceased her on June 14, 2004, after which she moved to Grand Gorge, NY.

Mrs. Latta graduated from the Gilboa-Conesville Central School in 1951. She was formerly the Gilboa town clerk and then worked for Perini-Ball when the Blenheim-Gilboa Power Project was built, in 1951. She later worked for Audio-Sears, in Stamford, N.Y., as a bookkeeper, before retiring. Mrs. Latta was a member of the Gilboa United Methodist Church.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her father, Almon Haskin on May 10, 1987 and her nephew, Larry Paul Mattice on Sept. 26, 1974.

She is survived by:

Great Granddaughters: Keeley and Taryn VanValkenburgh Conesville, NY
Niece: Laurel Mattice West Conesville, NY
Grand Niece: Stephanie Truesdell Boston, MA.
Grand Nephews: Dustin Truesdell Gilboa, NY
Zachary Truesdell West Conesville, NY

Her Aunt, Clyda Mace, wrote a few years ago, "Loretta, the calm, dependable, sensitive, loving one we all lean on" and that "she faced her many surgeries with an unwavering smile and quiet strength."

A funeral service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Thurs., May 10, 2007 at the Gilboa United Methodist Church, Gilboa, NY. Pastor Dottie Morris will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gilboa Cemetery, Gilboa, NY. Calling hours will be from 6-8 P.M. on Wed., May 9, 2007 at the Palmer & Shaylor Inc. Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, NY. Memorials may be sent to the Gilboa United Methodist Church, State Rte. 990V, Gilboa, NY 12076.
