Worcester- Lorenzo "Bob" R. Hollenbeck, 83, formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Palatine Bridge Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past three years.
Born February 26, 1931 in Worcester, he was the son of Edwin and Gladys (Knapp) Hollenbeck.
Bob lived in Worcester most of his life and attended the small Hollenbeck School in Worcester and then Worcester Central School. He had worked at the Army Depot in Watervliet until he married Janet Collison on October 31, 1970 and they moved to Highland Falls. Upon retirement from West Point Academy where he was a shoe repairman for thirty-five years, they relocated to Schenevus. It was then that Bob built his home and operated a shoe repair shop in Schenevus.
Bob had various hobbies and interests that include fishing, hunting many years with his brother John as well as his friend Larry, and his many other fellow hunting buddies, Bingo, travel, his white Trans Am, attending demolition derbies that his brother, Kerrie, and two nephews, Kerrie, Jr., and Kenny participated in. He never missed the Schenevus Carnival, enjoyed attending the Sunshine Fair in Cobleskill, and loved to keep busy tinkering. He and Janet loved their favorite dog, Candy.
Most recently, Bob lived in Cobleskill with his niece, Nancy Rigley, and looked forward to attending the adult day care program.
He was predeceased by his wife, Janet, who died Nov. 1, 1995; his son, Bobby William Hollenbeck; sister, Jane Horton; and three brothers: Kerrie "Tiny" Hollenbeck, Willard Hollenbeck, and John Hollenbeck.
Survivors include his sister, Marguerite Hughes and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, where a period of visitation will take place an hour prior to the service, from 10 AM to 11 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Judith Thistle. Inurnment will be at a later date in Elk Creek Cemetery.
